Getting Started
Getting into business consulting
Whether you are experienced or have just graduated, there are a number of entry points into the business consulting profession. Many consultancy practices recruit graduates and MBAs in order to develop their core skills by teaching them specific diagnostic methodologies and techniques.
How we can help
Our professional development section identifies qualifications to help you learn new skills or embed existing ones. The IBC also offers short training courses for people wishing to make the move into consultancy - please see Training courses 2010 or go to the Events section to find out more. We also have active regions across the UK that offer networking opportunities to help you meet other experienced professionals and understand how you can enter the profession.
Other routes
There are a number of graduate fairs and university visits from various consultancies and organisations, which are targeted primarily at the graduate entry market – these provide the ideal opportunity to meet with potential employers and find out the type of practice you want to work for and if you need more business experience or technical expertise.
For experienced hires, vacancies are often posted on employers’ and job websites, newspapers and recruitment agencies and can provide an insight into the skills that are required at these levels – companies will often want to use your existing knowledge and skills so it is important to have direct business experience.
